Alaska Auto Shipping FAQ

Along with auto transport jobs in the contiguous 48 states, our company also undertakes auto shipping to and from Alaska. All our auto shipments to that state pass through the ports of Seattle, WA and Anchorage, AK by default. If you would like to have your vehicle shipped from a California port, we can accommodate your request.

After you place your order, we will pick up your car anywhere in Virginia or any other state, and deliver it to your port of choice. There, it will be transferred to a cargo ship and shipped to Anchorage, Dutch Harbor or Kodiak ports, depending on their convenience for you or proximity to the destination. There, you can pick the vehicle up yourself, or have us move it the rest of the way.

Given that Alaska auto transport occurs mostly via ship, keep in mind that drop-off and pick-up times need to follow the ship's departure and arrival schedules. If you're too early for drop-off or late with the pick-up, you may need to pay fines. To save you the trouble of making it to port pick-ups on time, as well as securing transportation to get there when you will also be picking up a vehicle you'll need to drive off, we can do the pick-up for you, for a true door-to-door auto shipping service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I prepare my car for transport by washing it?

Yes, this will make it easier to do a pre-move inspection of the vehicle to determine pre-existing damage, for claims purposes.

Can I ship a vehicle in bad operating condition?

No, every vehicle we ship must have functional steering, brakes, tires and other systems unless agreed to beforehand. We can ship non-running vehicles, but we need to know about their condition in advance to make the proper arrangements.

What if the vehicle doesn’t belong to me?

If you're not the vehicle owner, you need to provide appropriate permits, such as letters of authorization, consent forms to transport (from all owners, if the car is co-owned).

Do I have to turn my keys over to you?

When having your car shipped, make a copy of the car keys to allow it to be loaded on transport trucks. Don't part with your original set of keys - and make sure the duplicates work!

What paperwork do I need to submit for the move?

We will need notarized copies of your car title, registration, and any other relevant documents, such as loans, leases or other ownership information. You will also need a copy of any necessary permit to transport this vehicle to or from Alaska.

Are there any limits on ground clearance?

Yes, all vehicles we transport need a minimum of 6 inches of ground clearance (distance between ground and lowest point on the vehicle body).
