Moving FAQ

The best way to move house is to let someone else handle it. However, if you can't or prefer not to hire a professional moving company, you need to know how to properly load the moving truck.

First and foremost, don't take on too much by yourself. This seems obvious, but a surprising number of people try to "tough it out" and power through parts of a move that are better handled by a couple of people. Some folks try to move couches, minifridges and other such heavy objects and get lifting injuries.

Make sure you have enough hands to get the job done safely, for your own sake and to protect your stuff!

Frequently Asked Questions

Packing Right

You should be using boxes, and you should pack them full. Don't try to make them dense or heavy, just try to avoid leaving empty space at the top. Shifting items can get damaged, and the box itself is at a greater risk of collapsing if stacked.

Put stretch-wrap around your furniture, especially pieces you want to protect from scratching or dirt, such as mattresses, chairs and sofas. Wrapping your furniture will not just protect its surface, but will let you pack it more closely.

Loading the Van:

When loading a van, start at the front of the van and stack your items in order of descending size and weight towards the top. Don't hesitate to take items such as furniture apart, or take protruding parts off for the duration of the move. Find ways to fit heavy items in ways that keep them stable and space-efficient - for example, standing a sofa on one end is a good alternative to putting it down horizontally and trying to fit things on the irregular surface. Just make sure that it's secured enough that it won't tip over or shift in transit! If your belongings don't fill up the truck, be sure to strap them down to prevent in-transit damage - most moving damage happens when items shift around or fall on top of each other during transit. While you're busy packing and driving a moving van or truck, our company will take care of relocating your vehicle for you!
